Since 1973, Charlie Walton has been a full-time wordmonger...
providing editing, scriptwriting, copywriting, and speechwriting services
to business and educational clients.
Known widely as The Wordmonger, Charlie has developed a satisfied-customer
clientele among communication, training, and marketing executives. They know
from experience that Charlie specializes in making complicated topics easy to
understand. Georgia Power Company, for example, has called on The Wordmonger for
over sixty video presentations... explaining everything from "How to Check a
Substation" to the intricacies of "The New Prescription Drug Program."
Other business clients who have called on The Wordmonger include: AT&T, BellSouth,
Chick-fil-A, The Coca-Cola Company, Days Inns, Delta Air Lines, Disney World, DuPont,
Gannett, Georgia Pacific, Haverty's, Hewlett Packard, I.B.M., Kimberly-Clark, Kroger,
Life of Georgia, Northern Telecom, Revlon, Southern Bell, Texas Instruments, U.S.A.
Today, and Westinghouse.
Originally trained to be a school teacher, Charlie's career took a "writing turn"
when some of his graduate school work was incorporated into a best-selling national
educational program. The result has been that Charlie never made it back to the
classroom, but has continued to "teach" through the materials he has written.
Charlie has designed instructional materials for every age group from pre-kindergarten
to senior citizens. Some of his education clients have been: American Guidance Service,
American Speech and Hearing Association, Clemson University, Georgia Department of
Education, Georgia State University, Georgia Tech, Martin Luther King Center, Parents
Magazine, Project Head Start, University of Georgia, University of Mississippi,
University of North Carolina, and the U.S. Bureau of Education for the Handicapped.
Writing assignments and personal travel have given Charlie a diverse bank of
experiences... from door-to-door salesman... to midnight shift worker... to scores
of jobs for which he has written training programs. Charlie, his wife, and children
lived for three years in New Zealand. He has visited all 50 states and written about
his travels to Latin America and Europe.
"One of the reasons I continue in this writing business," says Charlie, "is that
I love the way each week brings another opportunity to learn about another aspect
of business or industry. I still get excited about plant tours and organizational
charts! More than once I have had clients who said to me at the end of a writing
job, `You know, Charlie... we never had a clear idea of how our operation worked
until you put it into words for us.'"
Charlie has been satisfying finicky editors, demanding executives, and capricious
committees in virtually every occupational field for over thirty years. He measures
his writing success by the degree to which he accomplishes the client's communication
objectives. He approaches writing as a business, not an art.
Charlie gives free estimates and sticks to them. He shows up on schedule with the
promised product and usually hits the target on the first shot. He understands that
you know your audience better than he does... and is one writer who will keep
revising until you say it's right. You can contact Charlie at
